PayPal wanted to highlight the versatility and ease of their service in a fresh and creative way. The resulting campaign involved a live video stream through which shoppers around the world could discover and buy unique handmade items at LA’s iconic Melrose Trading Post, all from the comfort of their homes. As the host explored the flea market, viewers could examine items for themselves and even make purchases through the vendors’ websites. With three phases, including a pre-event promotional site and post-event recap and e-commerce site, the project was a complex undertaking.
The campaign was designed around a live event which posed some technical challenges. The site needed to reflect the most relevant information for the user at that moment. Accordingly, we created a flexible CMS application powered by web sockets that accommodated pre-event, during, and post-event phases with unique layout, content, and functionality. Another technical hurdle was the coordination of content between the frontend and the livestream. As the host held up a product, our site needed to display the product details and purchase options in real time.
